Global Restaurateur

David Lee

David Lee’s vision and passion define the essence of Namu Group, the hospitality company he founded. With nearly two decades of experience in the restaurant industry, David approaches each day as an opportunity to learn, grow, and expand his perspective.

Although Auckland may be a small city by global standards, David believes that “a great city is not defined by its size but by its cultural richness — its vibrant food scene, diversity, and the experiences it offers.”

Driven by this belief, David has dedicated his career to elevating the global presence of Korean cuisine. In the early days, he introduced Korean flavors to international audiences through approachable local cafés, gradually building a strong following. Today, thanks to his pioneering efforts, Korean cuisine enjoys widespread popularity in New Zealand. Seeing this as a form of cultural ambassadorship, David is now expanding into the Australian market — continuing his mission to share the taste and artistry of Korean food with the world.

Beyond being a restaurateur, David is deeply involved in menu creation and interior design. He personally designs each restaurant and bar space, ensuring that not only the food but also the environment — from lighting and music to service and atmosphere — come together to create a truly memorable experience. His philosophy reflects a constant curiosity and forward-thinking spirit, always staying ahead of trends and cultural shifts.

Having personally designed and developed over 20 restaurants, David continually explores what concepts resonate most with guests — and how to express both taste and style through his brands. His approach combines culinary authenticity with refined design, resulting in dining experiences that are as visually engaging as they are delicious.

David’s journey continues to evolve. His relentless pursuit of new ideas and challenges drives Namu Group forward, shaping its future direction. Each project represents another step in his broader vision — one defined by creativity, cultural expression, and a commitment to redefining modern dining experiences.

Marketing and Operations Director

Albert Cho

Commonly known as the creator behind the food reviewing platform “EatLitFood,” Albert has invested several years refining his palate while growing his own personal brand. Despite his lengthy reviews, Albert was the first to admit his lack of knowledge for the restaurant industry and was eager to take the next step in his hospitality career. He started at Namu Group from the basics, working front of house as well as washing dishes while taking David’s lead and slowly progressing his trajectory.

Operations Manager

Shayan Darvish

When it comes to venue management, Shayan comes on top within Namu Group. His many years of working at some of Auckland’s busiest restaurants have given him the first hand experience and knowledge of operating a hospitality establishment. He’s a man who lives and breathes this industry, with a passion for hospitality that is unmatched while always getting the job done to the highest standard possible.
